Trump said his powers give him the authority to impose restrictions on people from Afghanistan

US President Donald Trump, amid news of the second detention of a native of Afghanistan on terrorism charges, referred to a legislative act that provides the right to introduce restrictive measures for immigrants of a certain nationality.

He further cited a legal norm, according to which the head of state is authorized to issue a special decree allowing for a certain period of time to restrict the entry of immigrants or non-immigrants into the country on the basis of nationality or other characteristics.

Earlier, officials reported the detention of a native of Afghanistan, who, on the eve of the attack on National Guard troops near the White House, threatened to carry out an explosion in the Texas city of Fort Worth.

Another native of Afghanistan on November 26 fired several shots from a revolver at guardsmen on duty several hundred meters from the White House. The incident injured two people; 20-year-old National Guard soldier Sarah Beckstrom later died from her injuries, while doctors continue to fight for the life of her 24-year-old colleague.

US President Donald Trump described the incident as a terrorist attack. The investigation of the incident will be conducted both as an attack on a federal law enforcement officer and under the article on terrorism. The Prosecutor General’s Office intends to demand capital punishment for the perpetrator. The United States will screen all people who entered the country under a program initiated by the previous administration after the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
