Samsung plans to restore this popular One UI feature after user backlash
Samsung started rolling out the Android 15-based One UI 7 update in early April this year and officially completed this task a few weeks ago. This means that the One UI 7 update is available to all eligible Galaxy handsets, including older budget models that usually get software updates at the very end of the release cycle.
Regardless of the Galaxy handset, the One UI 7 update brings largely the same set of features for everyone. Unfortunately, One UI 7 also snatched some important features from Galaxy phones, leaving users disappointed. While the South Korean tech giant is unlikely to bring all those features back, it has started working on restoring at least one.
A comeback for pollen tracking in Samsung‘s Weather app
Samsung’s Weather app may not be one of the best weather apps on Androidbut it has certainly deteriorated since Samsung removed the pollen tracking feature from the app with the One UI 7 update. Users on various online platforms, including Reddit and Samsung’s own forumwere quick to point it out, showing frustrations.
We’re yet to hear from Samsung as to why it removed the feature, but it certainly caught the company’s attention, and a fix may soon be on the way. That’s what the leaked One UI 8.5 build seems to suggest.
As first spotted by our friends over at Android Authoritythe dedicated pollen card is back in Samsung’s Weather app. As was the case previously, it shows tree, grass, and ragweed pollen, each of which has three severity levels, including “None,” “Low,” and “Moderate.”
If you want a more detailed breakdown, tap the type of pollen sources you want to know more about, and it’ll take you to weather.com. In the One UI 7 update, you need to scroll to the bottom of the Weather app and then click the “The Weather Channel” link, which will take you to the website and show you the pollen severity levels. Undoubtedly, this isn’t nearly as convenient as the previous method, especially if you’re used to tracking pollen the old way in the Weather app.
However, now that Samsung’s efforts in reviving the pollen card are visible in One UI 8.5, we can safely assume that the limitation will be short-lived. Of course, the One UI 8.5 update will be so much more than fixing things, and we’ll know more about the update as we get closer to its release.
