Morocco reaps the first three places in the “Standoff” international security competition for cybersecurity

This achievement came after a strong competition between 38 experts in cybersecurity from the countries of the Middle East and North Africa and Southeast Asia, where the participants faced the challenges of simulating electronic attacks and the protection of digital infrastructure similar to those used in modern countries.

Morocco represented in this competition five teams, each of which is composed of four specialists, which were formed in cooperation between the General Directorate for Information Systems Security – the national party in charge of coordinating the cybersecurity strategy in Morocco – the most prominent Moroccan universities. Participants have shown high efficiency and great ability to monitor cyber threats and deal with them quickly and effectively in a almost real environment.

“Standoff” competition: a global platform for testing cyber skills

“Positive Technologies” has been organizing “Standoff” competitions since 2016, and the first edition outside Russia was held in 2019 in Abu Dhabi within the activities of the “Hitb+Cyberweek” forum. Since then, the competition has become one of the most prominent global events that allow specialists to test and develop their offensive and defensive skills in a practical environment that simulates reality.

The company also organizes annually in Moscow the “Positive Hack Days” festival, which is the largest international gathering for those interested in cybersecurity and technology. In 2025, the festival set a record with the participation of more than 150,000 present, and the follow -up of more than 180,000 via the Internet, with delegations from more than 40 countries from Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

International praises of the performance of Moroccan participants

Elia Leonov, the regional director of “Positive Technologies” in the Middle East and North Africa region, praised the level of organization and enthusiasm shown by Moroccan participants, pointing to “high efficiency and professionalism of cybersecurity specialists in Morocco.”

He pointed out that the competition provided a unique opportunity to test new offensive and defensive technologies in an environment that simulates reality, with a special focus on protecting vital infrastructure in sectors such as energy, transportation and finance.

For his part, Alexei Andrev, the Russian commercial representative in Morocco, praised the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the field of cybersecurity, stressing that Russia has extensive experience in ensuring digital flexibility. He pointed out that the partnership between the two countries can include the localization of technical solutions, joint development, and the transfer of experiences – a approach that acquires special importance to countries seeking to achieve their digital independence.

Within the framework of the regional cybersecurity week

The “Standoff” competition was held this year within the activities of the regional week of cybersecurity, which was hosted by Rabat from 15 to 19 September 2025. The event was attended by the General Directorate of Cyber Security in Morocco, the Regional Center for Cyber Security, the International Telecommunication Union, the computers response team of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the FIRST organization. The competition carried the slogan: “Digital sovereignty for sustainable economic development”, referring to the pivotal role of cybersecurity in building strong and independent national economies.
