A home renovation led to startling discovery for Des Moines, Iowa-based realtor Nikki Snyder.

She was ripping up the carpets of her abode when she uncovered the spot where the dead body of the past owner had ‘melted into the floor.’

While speaking exclusively with the Daily Mail about it, Nikki explained that she had purchased the two-bedroom, one-bathroom home for $99,000 in 2021.

She started renting it out but after a tenant’s pet destroyed the carpet earlier this year, she decided to redo the floors.

‘We looked at historical photos of it to see if there was hardwood under the carpet,’ she explained.

But that’s when Nikki noticed something suspicious: the photos showed a rug in the middle of the floor placed in a very awkward position.

She had a feeling the rug may have been covering something up, so she decided to investigate.

She ripped up the carpets, but what she found was more horrifying than she even imagined.

She then learned from the agent that there had been an ‘unattended death’ in the house in the summer with no air-conditioning, resulting in the dead body ‘melting into the floor.’

While past owners had cut away most of the area, what was left was the spot where the dead person’s hand and feet had rested.

‘When we pulled the carpet back, we saw that the previous owners had cut out most of the body, but there was a significant hand and arm print, as well as a possible foot print,’ shared Nikki.

‘It didn’t bother me knowing he had passed. I went to mortuary school when I was in my 20s, and I’ve dealt with death a lot in my life. I wasn’t afraid. Just sad for the guy,’ she added.

‘My understanding was that he was a recluse, not much contact with family and he’d been there for a couple of weeks.’

Nikki took a video of the harrowing discovery and shared it to TikTok in July, where it went viral, gaining more than 3.8 million views.

‘I often share my real estate stories on TikTok. I was a little surprised [by the reaction] but it showed how little exposure to death and the dying process people have,’ Nikki said. ‘Most people don’t like to talk about it, much less see videos.’

She ultimately laid new flooring down, and she has since rented the house out – and said her current tenants are aware of the story.

And she admitted that she has felt a ‘heavy presence’ in the home.

‘When we first bought it, I would feel nauseated and dizzy, sometimes a heavy presence of someone standing over me,’ she dished.

Even so, she insisted that she’s unfazed by the fact that a dead body had been rotting there.

‘No,’ she said when asked if she felt uneasy about it. ‘I sat on that floor quite a bit when we were rehabbing the property.

‘People die everyday and I believe he’s in a better place than that house.’
