Google’s Clock app is not playing nice with the Samsung Galaxy Watch

While it may seem fairly basic, the clock apps on your Android smartphone and Wear OS smartwatches serve a crucial function, to the point that a minor bug can break functionality. Owners of Samsung Galaxy Watch and some OnePlus Watch models appear to have come across one of these bugs with Google’s Clock app.
Complaints on the Wear OS subreddit, dating back to nearly three weeks agoas well as more recent entriesstate that the Google Clock app is no longer compatible with their smartwatches. Interestingly, the issue only impacts non-Pixel smartwatches, so if you own any of the Pixel Watch modelsthere should be no issues whatsoever (via Android Authority).
Screenshots of the app’s Play Store listing posted by the affected users show that smartwatches are plainly marked as incompatible, while one user reports that the Install button has disappeared entirely. It’s worth pointing out that users are not facing any issues with the Google Clock app on their phones, suggesting that this bug is specific to the Wear OS version of the app.
Sideloading the app doesn’t seem to work
Meanwhile, one user tried to sideload the APK, but to no avail. While several other solutions have been attempted already, none of them work for the impacted users. Based on the volume of complaints piling up, it’s somewhat surprising that Google hasn’t commented on the matter.
Google is likely aware of the issue by now, given that a complaint was posted on its support page around nine days ago. However, there has been no response or acknowledgment of this particular glitch yet.
While some are speculating that this may be Google’s way of making its Clock app a Pixel-exclusive and thereby severing ties with non-Pixel wearables, that doesn’t appear to be the case. A decision like that wouldn’t be made without notifying the users first, possibly months in advance. But we’ve seen stranger things happen in the past, so a sudden removal would not be beyond the realm of possibility.
