Alysa Liu is going in a “different direction.”

The 2025 World Champion figure skater said she will change her short program in the wake of an investigation surrounding the singer d4vd after a 15-year-old girl was found dead in his car.

“As many of you know, I recently debuted a new short program for the ‘25-‘26 season,” Liu, 20, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, Sept. 24. “However, in light of recent news, my team & I are confidently pursuing a different direction that aligns with my values & just my overall ethos.”

Liu continued, “I’m eager to start brainstorming new ideas, & I want to ensure my creative process isn’t rushed. So, in the meantime, you may see some familiar programs. Thank you for your ongoing support!”

The California native previously shared that she was planning to skate her short program in the lead up to the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics to “This Is How It Feels” by d4vd and Laufey.

After a teenage girl was found dead in the 20-year-old singer d4vd’s car on Sept. 8, authorities announced 10 days later that detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department had served a search warrant at a property associated with him in connection to the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Authorities said Hernandez’s body was found in a Tesla registered to d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The singer was in the midst of his Withered World Tour in North America when Hernandez’s body was found. He has not publicly commented on the situation, but his representative told NBC Los Angeles that his client is “fully cooperating” with authorities.

In March, Liu became the first American woman to win the World Figure Skating Championships in 19 years.

Liu had stepped away from the sport three years ago after competing at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where she finished sixth, and the 2022 World Championships, where she finished third.

Liu announced her return to competitive skating in March 2024. Her comeback started slowly, but she continued to build momentum throughout the season, culminating with a win in Boston.
