Federico Chiesa emerged as one of the few positives to come from the defeat at Crystal Palacewith the Italian continuing to earn calls from supporters for a more involved role.

It took Liverpool’s No. 14 until January 18 to make six appearances last season, and he has done it this time around before the end of September, while scoring twice and setting up another two goals.

It has been no secret that Slot has favoured his other attacking options in the past, but Chiesa has quickly emerged as a player who can turn the game in Liverpool’s favour.

That was the case again at Selhurst Park until poor defending from a long throw-in, again, saw Slot’s side come unstuck to deny Chiesa a hand in yet another result.

The 27-year-old injects infectious energy, and not for the first time this season, he’s had supporters calling on Slot to utilise him accordingly:

I don’t understand why Chiesa isn’t starting games for us.

He looks better than any of our attackers including Salah.

Yet he barely gets more than 20 minutes in the league and is still able to get into dangerous situations…

Chiesa has 8 G/As in his Liverpool career now, which is an average of one every 77 minutes.

He deserves a lot more than just being a cult hero and a super sub. Start him.

What was poor result and performance today, the one shining light (in recent weeks) is the emergence of Chiesa as a genuine option to help change the game, maybe even a start in a PL is due soon.

Chiesa has more than put forth a case for more game time, and his inclusion in the Champions League squad at the expense of Giovanni LI ought to put him in contention on Tuesday evening.

The Italian spoke after the win over Southampton in midweek that he “wants the competition” for places and is feeling “better physically and mentally” compared to last season.

Slot has shown a willingness to chop and change his side this season, so why not give Chiesa more than a sub role in the Premier League and Champions League?
