The magnetic field is present everywhere: the Earth itself is a huge magnet that creates a geomagnetic field by force of about 0.5 Gauss, which, like an invisible umbrella, protects all living things on the planet from cosmic rays. Many animals use it for navigation. Superconducting magnets are able to give rise to much more powerful fields.
According to Liu Fan from IFP, an innovative structure is distinguished by the new installation: high -temperature and low -temperature superconducting magnets are coaxially built into each other. The methods of joint work and management technology are optimized, which made it possible to effectively solve problems such as the concentration of voltages at low temperatures and a strong field, as well as the effect of shielding currents. This significantly increased the mechanical stability and electromagnetic characteristics of the magnet in extreme conditions.
During the experiment, on the night of September 26-27, the superconducting magnet worked steadily with a magnetic field of 351,000 Gauss for 30 minutes and was safely demagnet, which confirmed the absolute reliability of technical solutions.
Superfiguing magnets are the main components of the magnetic retention devices of plasma for nuclear synthesis, acting as a “magnetic cell”, which allows you to safely hold high -temperature plasma for its “combustion”. IFP has long been closely engaged in research in this area. In recent years, superconducting current -wores per 100 KA have developed here, superconducting compounds with nanomic resistance and other technologies, which allowed to completely localize the production of materials, equipment and systems for superconducting magnets. As one of the key organizations of the Chinese working group of the ITER International thermonuclear experimental reactor, the institute is responsible for the supply of superconducting conductors, correcting coils, power lines of magnets and other components.
A successful experiment will promote the commercialization of high-tech scientific equipment for magnetic resonance imaging. In addition, achievements will be found in areas such as magnetic devices for nuclear synthesis, electromagnetic engines for space, superconducting induction heating, magnetic levitation and effective electricity transmission.
