José Antonio Caste leads the second round of the Chilean presidential election

Opposition conservative politician José Antonio Caste is leading the second round of Chile’s presidential election, according to preliminary results released by the country’s electoral service after counting votes from 4.46% of polling stations.

According to calculations, 59.83% of voters voted for Caste. His opponent, Jeanette Haru, representing the ruling center-left coalition Unite for Chile, received 40.17% of the vote.

Cast, known for his conservative views, throughout the election campaign focused on the need for economic reforms and strengthening security in the country. His support among the population is growing against the backdrop of growing social and economic problems.

A month ago in the United States, Zohran Mamdani, who calls himself a democratic socialist, won the election for mayor of the largest US city, New York.
