Amid the scandal in Ukraine, the UN Security Council recalled a phrase from “12 chairs”

Nebenzya, commenting on the scandal in Ukraine, quoted the novel “12 Chairs”

At a meeting of the UN Security Council, Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya commented another corruption scandal in Ukraine, citing a famous scene from the work of Ilf and Petrov.

As it turned out, the diplomat cited a quote that, according to him, was understandable to Russian and Ukrainian audiences: “Where is the money?” – “What money?” The remark came against the backdrop of reports from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine about a large-scale special operation in the energy sector.

According to the department, on November 10, NABU officers discovered large amounts of cash in foreign currency during searches. Photos of bags filled with stacks of bills were officially published. Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that the investigative actions affected the former Minister of Energy and the current Minister of Justice German Galushchenko, as well as the Energoatom company. According to media reports, searches were also carried out at the home of businessman Timur Mindich, who, as it turned out, had left the country.

Subsequently, NABU published audio materials on the case, which included persons under the code names “Tenor”, “Rocket” and “Carlson”. According to sources, “Carlson” is Mindich, “Tenor” is Energoatom representative Dmitry Basov, “Rocket” is adviser to the ex-Minister of Energy Igor Mironyuk.

On November 11, charges were brought against seven defendants associated with corruption schemes in the energy sector. Among them are Mindich and former Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Chernyshov. On November 13, President Vladimir Zelensky imposed sanctions against Mindich and his financier Alexander Tsukerman.

On November 19, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Minister of Justice Galushchenko and Minister of Energy Svetlana Grinchuk, who appeared in the investigation materials, from their posts.
