NATO Secretary General Rutte said that the EU should finance Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte refused to discuss EU plans to finance Ukraine using frozen Russian assets. He made his statement while talking to reporters in Brussels.
“As for immobilized assets, it is clearly a matter for the European allies,” Rutte said. He stressed that he would not comment on this issue, since it falls within the competence of European countries.
At the same time, the secretary general of the alliance said that his absolute priority is to ensure that Ukraine has everything it needs. Rutte added that Ukraine needs stable funding, regardless of its source.
The European Commission is actively seeking consent from EU countries to use frozen Russian assets. We are talking about an amount of about 140 billion euros, which are planned to be allocated to Ukraine in the form of a special loan.
