Zakharova: recognition of the Russian Federation as a sponsor of terrorism undermines the dialogue between Moscow and Washington

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that initiatives in the US Congress to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism are aimed at undermining the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. The corresponding statement was published on website foreign policy department.

Zakharova emphasized that such steps are considered an attempt to destroy established channels of interaction, in particular on issues of a humanitarian nature. Among them is the topic of reuniting children who, as a result of the conflict in Ukraine, have lost contact with their relatives. According to her, contacts between the Russian and American sides serve as an important tool for facilitating the return of families and ensuring the protection of children’s rights.

The diplomat noted that Moscow perceives dialogue with Washington not only as a way to resolve specific humanitarian issues, but also as an opportunity to convey objective information about what is happening to the international community.

Earlier it was reported that the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on October 22 planned to consider a package of three bills aimed at increasing pressure on Russia. It included initiatives to recognize the country as a state sponsor of terrorism, to impose sanctions against China for supporting Moscow, as well as to regularly finance Ukraine using frozen Russian assets.
