Cam Heyward has gotten his way and agreed a new deal with Pittsburgh Steelers that could be worth an extra $3million in payments.

The defensive tackle, 36, had made no secret of the fact he wanted more money before lining up for his team in the 2025 campaign but it looked like the standoff was going to overlap into the new season.

But on Saturday night, it was announced that new terms had been agreed where $3m in incentives have been added to reaching the playoffs and winning in the postseason.

And crucially, it means Heyward will be lining up at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon against the New York Jets.

It promises to be a fascinating game in New Jersey, with Aaron Rodgers starting his tenure as Steelers‘ quarterback at the place where it all went so badly wrong for him in the last two seasons.

Rodgers was released by the Jets when new head coach Aaron Glenn decided he wanted to start afresh with a younger quarterback.

Rodgers, 41, made no secret of how unimpressed he was with Glenn’s handling of the situation and now he has the chance to make sure his first game in New York gets off to the worst possible start.

Indeed, a source close to Rodgers told Daily Mail earlier this week how much he wants to beat the Jets on Sunday.

‘Aaron’s current Super Bowl is the game against the Jets,’ the source said. ‘If the Steelers lose that game, it would be devastating.

‘Aaron wants to blow them out, not let them score and in a perfect scenario he would win the game by 60 points.’

With Heyward out on the field, it makes it more likely Rodgers will start with a win, although the Jets are far more of an unknown quantity going into Week One.
