Merz: Russian assets will remain frozen until compensation is paid to Kyiv

Ukraine will receive an interest-free loan from the European Union, which will have to be repaid only after Russia pays the so-called “compensation”. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as quoted by Reuters.

Earlier, the head of the European Council, António Costa, said that the EU countries had agreed to provide assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros for 2026–2027.

Merz clarified that frozen Russian assets will be held until Moscow makes payments to Kyiv.
