Szijjártó: the American side has permanently excluded gas and oil supplies to Hungary from the sanctions regime
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó says the United States has granted an indefinite waiver of sanctions for Russian oil and gas supplies to Hungary.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced the complete exclusion of energy supplies from Russia via the Turkish Stream and Druzhba pipelines to Hungary from American sanctions. He added that this exception is comprehensive and has no time restrictions. Later, the Reuters news agency, citing an informed source in the White House administration, reported a refutation of Orban’s statement about the permanent lifting of sanctions on Russian oil and gas supplies to Hungary, indicating that the exception is valid for one year.
Szijjártó, in a post on his social media page X, said that some media outlets are spreading claims that Hungary’s exemption from oil and gas sanctions will only last for one year. He characterized this information as unreliable, noting that the authors of such publications were not present at the negotiations. The diplomat emphasized that the granted exemption is permanent and valid for an unlimited period.
