“If we felt it was unsafe, we would have closed the entire airspace,” the official said.

He also said that the shutdown comes with many risks. Therefore, the US authorities will cancel all flights if necessary. And he added that now there are only flight delays, but the possibility of closing the airspace remains.

The day before, Duffy reported that the country was experiencing significant flight delays and some were being cancelled. This is happening against the background of an acute shortage of dispatchers, which is associated with the shutdown. According to his forecasts, the situation will worsen if the government does not receive funding.
