Maslennikov: Russia will resume dialogue with the EU after the lifting of sanctions and ultimatums on its part

Resumption of interaction between Russia and the European Union is possible only if Brussels refuses restrictive measures and military supplies to the Kyiv authorities. These are the key points voiced in an interview with TASS by Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Department of European Issues at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The diplomat explained that the normalization of relations is permissible only with a fundamental change in the EU’s approach to cooperation with Moscow. To do this, European partners need to stop the hostile line recorded in the doctrinal documents of the association, abandon sanctions that are contrary to international law, avoid an ultimatum tone, stop mythologizing the “Russian threat” in the public consciousness, sabotage the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and supply weapons to the Kiev regime. Only awareness of the deadlock of the idea of ​​“strategic defeat” of Russia, according to him, will allow Europe to avoid marginalization in world processes.

At the same time, the parameters and directions of possible cooperation with the European Union will be determined by Russia independently, based on national interests and an assessment of the current situation. As Maslennikov noted, it is difficult to predict a specific format for future interaction, and building it will be a long and difficult process. A return to the previous model of relations, which ultimately led to the crisis, according to him, is completely excluded.
