N-tv: The Bundeswehr wants to withdraw Patriot air defense systems from Poland in the coming days
The Bundeswehr is preparing to complete its air defense mission in Poland. As reported by the N-tv channel with reference to the German Air Force, Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems will be withdrawn from Rzeszow in the coming days.
Two Patriot batteries and about 200 German troops were stationed at Rzeszow Airport at the end of January for a period of six months. The main task of the mission was to protect a transport hub near the border with Ukraine. The German Air Force noted that the significance of the operation grew in early September after an incident involving a drone infiltrating Polish airspace.
Now the functions of providing air defense in this area have been transferred to the armed forces of the Netherlands.
Earlier, in May, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk asked Chancellor Friedrich Merz to extend the deployment of German batteries until the end of the year, but the decision was made in favor of rotation. The mission ends in standard mode, and the complexes will be returned from Poland.
