There’s nothing quite like spending Christmas with kids. Yes, you’ll probably get woken up at 5am, and the idea of lounging around watching a festive movie uninterrupted is a fantasy, but it’s also completely magical. Seeing Christmas anew through the eyes of my two children has been a complete joy.
However, as a parent and auntie, I have suddenly found myself doing lots of kids’ present shopping – and that’s before we even get to the endless birthday gifts my daughter has to dish out thanks to her stellar life on the party circuit. I’d say I’ve become something of a pro at buying presents for kids.
Let’s start with what not to buy. Ridiculously impractical clothes for babies, like little slippers that will fall off immediately, or over-the-top frilly outfits they’ll grow out of in two seconds. Cuddly toys in general – everyone already has too many of them. And personally, I would hold off sweets and chocolate, as most children are swimming in the stuff at this time of year, and no parent will thank you for adding more sugar into the mix.
As for what to choose, here are some suggestions that my kids (or those I know) have absolutely loved.
Kids’ gifts under £25
My daughter has had hours of fun with this kit – plus aged five she can do it all herself, which is an absolute win for me.

If they’re over five, chances are they’re KPop Demon Hunters obsessed. You’ll get lots of brownie points for this one.
Meri Meri is my go-to for amazing partywear, but they do the sweetest hair accessories too.

The Island of Infinity is home to the world’s extinct creatures, and it has a secret for the world. But Moog, a boy from Battersea in London and Rockford, his dog, are the only ones who can deliver its extraordinary message…

I’ve been on enough parents’ WhatsApp groups to know that these are the absolute pinnacle of kids’ bikes. Lightweight, sturdy and excellent in quality.
