Hillary Clinton’s evidence to the Jeffrey Epstein probe was thrown into chaos over leaks from the private hearing were leaked by a Republican politician to a MAGA influencer.
Ms Clinton said she had “no idea” about Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal activities in a dramatic evidence session before the US Congress.
She branded the grilling a political stunt, and accused Republicans on the committee of running a one-sided investigation designed to prevent scrutiny of Donald Trump’s long friendship with Epstein.
“This institutional failure is designed to protect one political party and one public official,” she said.
The former Secretary of State maintained she doesn’t remember ever meeting America’s most notorious paedophile in her deposition to the House Oversight Committee today.
Her husband Bill Clinton will become the first former President ever to give evidence before congress when he appears before the committee tomorrow.
The evidence session was briefly thrown into chaos when a photo of Secretary Clinton testifying at the closed-door session was leaked by a Republcan member to a MAGA blogger.
Lauren Bohbert admitted to having taken a picture of Clinton during the session and sent it to influencer Benny Johnson. The hearing was briefly halted when the picture emerged, but has since resumed.
While the evidence is being heard in private, video of it will be released at a later date.
“Like every decent person,” Hillary Clinton added in her opening statement, “I have been horrified by what we have learned about their crimes.”
She had said her husband had flown with Epstein for charitable trips but that she did not recall meeting Epstein. She had interacted with Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend and confidant, at conferences hosted by the Clinton Foundation.
Maxwell also attended the 2010 wedding of their daughter, Chelsea Clinton.
On Thursday, Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the top Democrat on the Oversight panel, also called on Trump to testify in the investigation. He argued that Bill Clinton’s appearance sets a precedent that should apply to Trump as well.
“Let’s get President Trump in front of our committee to answer the questions that are being asked across this country from survivors,” Garcia said.
