Samsung is facing ire for keeping Ultra models’ camera behind the safe mode at a time when Apple is showing that it’s still making progress. For example, its latest iPhones bring a new front camera feature that is so useful that the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra should also adopt.
The S-series lineup consists of three devices, and Ultra is the biggest. Its large display provides a high-quality content-viewing experience and improves the gaming experience.
However, a device as large as this one has its own challenges. That includes holding the phone with one hand to use the front camera. For example, the Galaxy S25 Ultra takes one of the best selfies, but its practical experience may not be comfortable for everyone, especially when you have a phone case. While we can exempt the vertical shots, the real challenge strikes with the landscape mode.
The iPhone 17‘s Center Stage camera could be the most preferable solution for this problem. It has a high-resolution 18MP square front camera sensor, enabling a wide field of view.
With that, users no longer need to rotate the phone to capture landscape shots. Instead, the iPhone will switch to a wide resolution within the vertical grip. This happens in two ways, manually and automatically.
The camera app for selfie mode has a rotate button. When a single user is taking selfies, the button can switch camera mode to landscape within the vertical grip. On the other hand, on-device AI automatically switches to landscape mode when you take a group selfie.
This new camera feature has two benefits: the vertical grip is more stable than holding the phone in landscape, while you can review all of the group members in a comfortable viewport.

The sensor upgrade is a key to the selfie feature, and Samsung has to play the same card to improve its own game. The problem is that the Galaxy S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, and S25 Ultra have the same 12MP sensor, and the picture on the Galaxy S26 Ultra remains gloomy.
This could be a major camera feature for the Galaxy S26 Ultra to launch the best camera experience while ensuring the device’s safety. Also, Samsung has a vast interest in implementing AI, so why not look into more camera improvements?
