Federico Chiesa OUT as Liverpool name 21-man travelling squad – Liverpool FC

Federico Chiesa has not been named in Liverpool’s squad travelling for the Champions League clash with Galatasaray, despite being newly registered last week.

Chiesa was drafted into the Champions League squad following Giovanni LI‘s season-ending ACL injury – but he is not among those to have made the trip to Istanbul.

This Is Anfield understands his absence is not injury related nor is there any known issue regarding his late registration with UEFA.

Only 21 players have been announced as part of Liverpool’s travelling group, which indicates Arne Slot will only have 10 substitutes on Tuesday night.

The head coach is expected to provide an update on Chiesa’s omission when he holds his pre-match press conference at 7pm (UK time).

Alexander Isaac and Alexis Mac Allisterwho are both still building up their fitness, have travelled after starting against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Hugo Ekitike is also part of the group as he returns to availability after serving his one-match suspension in that 2-1 loss at Selhurst Park.

Slot could make a number of changes to the side which started at Palace, and he will almost certainly scrap the 4-2-2-2 system that failed in the first half.

Florian Wirtz‘s role will be a point of contention after another quiet performance but the No. 7 is likely to be retained in his central attacking role.

The main areas of debate come at full-back – where either Dominic or Jeremie Frimpong could replace Conor Bradley and Andy Robertson could take over from Milos is coming – as well as in midfield.

Mac Allister is expected to drop back to the bench meaning there could be an opportunity for Curtis Jones if Szoboszlai instead shifts to right-back.

Ekitike will almost certainly start ahead of Isak up front while Cody Agat is set to come back into the side after being included on the bench at the weekend.

Liverpool reduced numbers means two goalkeepers will be among the substitutes – those being Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman.

Youngster Trey Nyoni worked with the first team at the AXA Training Centre on Monday but is instead set to join the U19s for their UEFA Youth League clash with Galatasaray.
