Chia seeds sold at retailers like Whole Foods and Amazon have been recalled nationwide, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Jan. 23. The items were sold under the Navitas Organics brand and pulled from shelves due to potential contamination withSalmonellabacteria that can cause serious or potentially fatal infections. So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recall.

The recall affects Navitas Organics Organic Chia Seeds sold in 8-oz bags with the UPC 858847000284 and the following lot codes and expiration dates:
