Pop artist Dua Lipa shut down a Daily Mail report claiming she fired her agent for signing a letter urging a festival organizer to drop a rap group over its pro-Palestinian views.
The singer and her talent agency, WME, called the story “categorically false,” according to the BBC.
The Daily Mail reported that Lipa fired her agent, David Levy, for signing the letter to prevent the Irish rap group Kneecap from performing at Glastonbury, alleging they were spreading antisemitism.
The Grammy award winner pushed back against this claim, saying that while she does not support Levy signing the letter silencing Kneecap, he stopped working with her in 2019, and she says the story was “deliberately inflammatory.”
“I do not condone the actions of David Levy or other music executives toward an artist speaking their truth,” she wrote on her Instagram story, the BBC reported.
“I also cannot ignore how this has been handled in the press,” the “Houdini” and “Levitating” singer continued. “Not only was the story completely false, but the language used by the Daily Mail has been deliberately inflammatory, crafted purely for clickbait, clearly designed to fuel online division.”
She added that she believes in “Free Palestine” but that the Mail was “exploiting a global tragedy” to sell newspapers.
In a statement to the BBC, WME said, “Reports suggesting that Dua Lipa or her management dismissed one of our agents because of his political views are categorically false.”
It added Levy was part of her team earlier in her career and only remained as part of her team “in an advisory role” until “earlier this year.”
Despite Levy’s push to prevent them from performing, the group hit the stage at the Glastonbury Festival in June.
The hip hop trio faced backlash from British politicians and a terror charge for one of the members, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, for waving a Hezbollah flag at a concert in London in November, according to The Associated Press.
