Celebrity chef Guy Grossis restaurant announces imminent closure Im going to cry

An award-winning Italian restaurant in Brisbane that had been under the direction of a celebrity chef is set to close in a matter of days.

Guy Grossi’s establishment Settimo, located inside The Westin Brisbane, will have its final day of service on Saturday February 21.

A message shared to the restaurant’s Instagram account confirmed the forthcoming closure.

‘Our partnership with Guy Grossi comes to a natural close,’ read a notice posted on social media this week.

‘We’re incredibly grateful for everything we’ve created and celebrated together.’

However, the Mary Street hotel venue isn’t being shut entirely.

The 150-seat space will soon be reimagined and reopened with a brand-new restaurant concept, with the latest post on Settimo’s Instagram hinting at the change ahead.

‘This marks an exciting new chapter for us. Very soon, we’ll unveil a fresh restaurant concept led by our award-winning Executive Chef Massimo and our talented culinary team,’ the post confirmed.

‘Stay tuned, something special is coming.’

A statement supplied by The Westin Brisbane to Good Food confirmed that the restaurant’s closure coincided with the end of its current contract with Guy Grossi, with the agreement lapsing on February 21.

‘Over the past three years, The Westin Brisbane has been proud to partner with chef Guy Grossi,’ the statement read. ‘Settimo was created as a collaborative vision between Guy and The Westin Brisbane, bringing a vibrant taste of Italy to the heart of the city.’

‘We are incredibly grateful for what we have built together and for Settimo’s contribution to Brisbane’s dining scene over the past three years.’

The hotel’s statement also confirmed that the venue’s next chapter would see a new restaurant concept opened under the direction of their current award-winning executive chef, Massimo Speroni.

Daily Mail reached out to The Westin Brisbane’s parent company, Marriott Asia Pacific, as well as Settimo restaurant, but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Settimo was billed as ‘Guy Grossi’s award-winning love letter to the Amalfi,’ according to the restaurant’s still-live website.

‘Settimo invites you to experience the simple flavours, friendly hospitality and vibrant energy of the Amalfi Coast,’ read the introductory explanation on the website.

Devastated diners replied to Settimo’s latest post to share their disappointment over the closure.

‘This is soooo sad. I’m gonna cry,’ read one reply.

‘I loved Settimo. Guy’s restaurant was amazing. Shame it’s closing. We had some great nights there,’ lamented another.

Another hopeful diner added that they hoped ‘Guy Grossi opens another restaurant in Brisbane’.

Meanwhile, the news that the venue would soon re-open prompted diners to request that some of their favourite dishes be retained.

‘I hope the new restaurant is still Italian and that you keep some menu items,’ read one reply.

‘I HOPE YOU KEEP YOUR TIRAMISU IT’S ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR,’ demanded another sweet-toothed patron.

The closure of Settimo follows a recent flurry of activity around the Grossi family restaurant empire.

Last October, several of their Melbourne establishments, including Florentino, Cellar Bar and Grossi Grill, were sold to Edition Hospitality Group.

This leaves only one remaining venue solely under Guy Grossi’s direction – Garum at The Westin Perth.

In addition to being a prominent restaurateur, Guy Grossi is a well-known TV chef personality.

He has previously appeared on popular cooking shows, including as a judge on My Kitchen Rules and Iron Chef Australia, as well as a guest on MasterChef Australia and host of Italian Food Safari.
