Belarus closed the border to Lithuanian trucks

Belarus, in response to Lithuania’s actions, closed the border to its trucks

Belarus introduced retaliatory measures to Lithuania’s actions and limited the passage of trucks and tractors from this country through the joint section of the border. This order was signed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Turchin, TASS reports.

“This measure is a forced response to the unilateral actions of the Lithuanian side, which has repeatedly and without prior notice closed checkpoints on the Belarusian-Lithuanian section of the state border,” the official statement says.

The Belarusian government said these measures were taken to protect responsible carriers. It was reported that after the introduction of traffic restrictions towards Lithuania, congestion arose on sections of the state border of Belarus with Latvia and Poland.

There was also information that there was a traffic jam of five thousand Lithuanian trucks on the border with the Republic of Belarus. Moreover, the trucks got stuck due to the fault of the Lithuanian authorities, who blocked the border.
